LinkedIn API (developer app, Page verification and product access)

Create a LinkedIn developer app tied to a LinkedIn Page, get a Page super admin to verify it, then add products. Sign In with LinkedIn (OpenID Connect) and Share on LinkedIn are self-serve; Community Management, Advertising and other Marketing APIs need a vetted access request (Development tier, then Standard tier).

Who owns what

A personal LinkedIn member account creates the developer app. Every app is permanently associated with one LinkedIn Page (the publisher), whose super admin must verify the app. Products and their permissions are granted per app.

  • LinkedIn member account personal owned by the personSigns in to the Developer Portal and creates the app; LinkedIn forbids headless or fake profiles.
  • LinkedIn Page organisation owned by the companyThe app's publisher. Cannot be changed after creation. Its super admin approves the app verification.
  • Developer app developer · under LinkedIn PageHolds Client ID / Client Secret, redirect URLs and the products (Sign In with LinkedIn, Share, Community Management, Advertising...).

A rejected Community Management access request cannot be retried on the same app; you must create a new app.

  3. Get the Page super admin to verify the app

Generate the verification URL in the app settings and send it to a super admin of the Page. They approve it within 30 days.

    • Guided by hand
    • Human step: The provider reviews it
    • After: Create the developer app
    The provider says
The super admin has 30 days to act on the link. [3]
    If something goes wrong (1)
    • The admin denied the request: A denial invalidates every verification link generated for the app. Sort out the reason with the admin, then generate a new request. [3]
  4. Add redirect URLs and copy Client ID / Secret

On the Auth tab add absolute HTTPS redirect URLs (no

    • Guided by hand
    • After: Create the developer app

    • After: Create the developer app

    Where: https://www.linkedin.com/developers/apps

  6. Request Community Management or Advertising API access (Development tier)optional

Read the Marketing API Terms and restricted use cases first. Under Products, request the API and complete the access form with your verified business email, legal name, registered address, website and privacy policy. You press submit.

    • Guided by hand
    • Human step: The provider reviews it
    • After: Get the Page super admin to verify the app
    The provider says
No fixed timeline is published for the standard products; restricted APIs are case-by-case with no fixed timeline. [5]
    If something goes wrong (2)
    • Community Management Development tier request rejected: You cannot re-apply with the same app. Review the qualifications (legal organisation, business email, verified Page, supported use case), create a new app and submit a new request. [6]
    • Business verification email never arrives: Check spam, junk, social and promotions folders. [6]
  7. Upgrade to Standard tieroptional

After building and testing within the Development tier, submit the Standard tier form (Community Management) with product overview, use cases, test credentials and a screen recording, or, for Advertising, a support ticket with a video showing campaign create/edit/optimise.

    • Guided by hand
    • Human step: The provider reviews it
    • After: Request Community Management or Advertising API access (Development tier)
    The provider says
No timeline is published; LinkedIn may decline even when minimum requirements are met. [5]
    If something goes wrong (1)
    • Standard tier request rejected: You cannot re-apply for Standard on the same app. Fix the issues, create a new app and start again from a Development tier request. [6]
