Have ready

  • Stripe CLI with the Projects plugin and a live Stripe account with a US billing address: The Twilio blog says the integration is currently for US-based developers.
  • Payment method on your Stripe account (stripe projects billing add) · Twilio bills your card on file through a Stripe payment token for the starting balance and top-ups. [3]Needed for: Add Twilio Email with Stripe Projects
  • DNS access for the sending domain · Domain authentication is required before sending. [3]Needed for: Add the DKIM, return-path and DMARC records

Steps

Steps marked “human step” are ones only you can do: verapli never signs in, submits, pays or accepts terms for you.

  1. Add Twilio Email with Stripe Projects

Run stripe projects add twilio/email and pick a starting balance tier. Stripe passes your verified identity and a payment token to Twilio, and the Twilio credentials sync to your .env (list names with stripe projects env).

    • Official API
    • Human step: You add payment details
    If something goes wrong (1)
    • Auto-recharge payment fails: Set your per-provider monthly spend limit to at least double the starting balance (stripe projects billing update --limit <amount> --provider twilio). [3]
  2. Create an authenticated domain

Open the Twilio Console (stripe projects open twilio), go to Communications > Email > Domains, click Create authenticated domain and enter your domain. Choose automated setup (supported DNS hosts) or manual setup.

    • Guided by hand
    • Human step: You press submit
    • After: Add Twilio Email with Stripe Projects

    Where: https://console.twilio.com/

  3. Add the DKIM, return-path and DMARC records

For manual setup, add the two DKIM CNAMEs, the return-path CNAME (all pointing at sendgrid.net subdomains) and the _dmarc TXT record shown, then click Verify. Status moves from Pending to Verified.

    • Guided by hand
    • After: Create an authenticated domain
    If something goes wrong (2)
    • Domain status stays Pending: Click Verify on the Domains page to re-run the check. [5]
    • Domain status shows Failed: Re-check that each copied record matches the console exactly, then Verify again. [5]

Pricing

  • Free tier: 3,000 free trial emails.
  • Costs: Pay-as-you-go per email from a prepaid starting balance (twilio/hobbyist $20 or twilio/business $50), auto-recharged when it falls below $10.
